Zone 0 is the area extending 0-5 feet from your home, defined by the California Board of Forestry & Fire Protection as the most critical defensible space zone. It focuses on intense fuel reduction to protect against ember attacks. Research shows that the majority of home ignitions during wildfires are caused by wind-driven embers landing on combustible materials near the structure. Zone 0 requires non-combustible materials, hardscaping, and removal of all fuel sources within this critical perimeter..
